Written for Brad White, Our Father
On His Eightieth Birthday, March 13, 2008
EIGHTY SUMMERS
Born the youngest son of a humble man
And a little bitty woman, who’d always take a stand
Of right and wrong they taught him well
A simple kindness, that silence tells
Conscience led him to a distant land
Where one young soldier lent a healing hand
And then home again, well it’s love at first sight
On that Spring day, when he met his wife
Gardens planted, children grown
We’re so grateful for the love he’s sown
So many touched by all he did
In eighty summers of a life well lived
With laughter shared and music played
He found them homes day after day
A gentle father, a loyal friend
Our love for him, will never ever end
Gardens planted, children grown
We’re so grateful for the love he’s sown
So many touched by all he did
In eighty summers of a life well lived
With a smile, deep gratitude, and endless love,
Jennifer & Jimmy
