Who Are the Eco-Tones?
For the last six years Jimmy Sferes & Jennifer White have been performing
professionally as the acoustic duo "Sferes & White." They've had the pleasure of
appearing on Garrison Keillor's nationally syndicated NPR program "A Prairie Home
Companion" as well as the Hallmark Channel's New Morning TV Show. In 2005
they released their debut CD "The View from Here" and in 2008 they completed their
second CD "Where Do We Go From Here." Jimmy and Jennifer live a simple but
deeply satisfying lifestyle where they make every effort to "walk their talk" when it
comes to sustainability and living a happy life. Their home, studio and vehicle
emissions are all offset with Renewable Energy Credits provided by wind and an
environmental ethic guides their actions in both their personal and professional life;
inspiring them to reduce their energy and resource consumption, live more locally,
drive less, and spread the word in as many ways as they can.
Jimmy Sferes
Jimmy realized at an early age growing up in New York City that there seemed to be an awful lot of pollution in
the world, between all the cars on the road and all of the trash in the street. He spent every spare moment he
had playing in the parks or climbing the trees surrounding his neighborhood. As he says, "I was looking for
nature in a cement forest." Even as a teenager when hired to play at weddings and corporate functions he was
astounded at the amount of trash that was generated in just a few hours. In his personal life Jimmy has been
a lifelong activist and vegetarian for thirty years. Over the last five years it has become clearer and clearer to
him that he wanted to use his passion for music to make a positive difference and do more than just make
people dance. He sees the Eco-Tones performances as a perfect way to keep his music alive and bridge the
gap between having fun with people and increasing the awareness they have about some of life's challenges.
Jimmy played his first guitar at age seven and has been performing professionally for thirty-five years. He's
been teaching guitar for over eleven years and enjoys getting students of all ages and abilities to reach their
own "Ahah" moment and become musicians in their own right. Jimmy has played in funk, jazz-fusion and R&B
bands and has performed locally and nationally at venues such as the Boulder and Bluebird Theatres, Rocky
Mountain Folks Festival, and Oregon Summer Solstice Festival. He has opened for such diverse luminaries as
David Wilcox, Delbert McClinton, Blues Traveler, Larry Coryell, Richard Elliott, and America. Jimmy has
released CD’s with his last four collaborative projects and is currently at work on his own solo release.

Jennifer White
For Jennifer sustainability is not just a job, it's her lifestyle and life's work. She has been an educator for over
thirteen years in a wide variety of academic and community settings and is known for her humorous and
engaging approach to teaching. She is the Executive Director of a national nonprofit called the Simplicity
Forum, a think tank of leaders committed to "achieving and honoring simple, just and sustainable ways of
life." She is also the Co-Founder and Director of Education for the Green Heart Institute which helps people
"understand the global impact of their choices, connect with their values and live sustainably from the heart."
Jennifer’s has a multidisciplinary background in physics, psychology, systems science and sustainability. Her
lifelong passion for nature and her interest in promoting whole systems health motivated her to develop a
values-based educational approach that allows people to consider the connection, and deepen the
congruence, between the environment, their behavior, and what they love and envision for themselves and the
world.
Jennifer grew up in a musical family, singing and playing percussion, but her transition into “professional
status” is more recent. In the last five years she's done studio recordings and radio sessions, and performed
with acappella groups, acoustic duos and trios, rhythm and blues bands, and a country rock band. Her
performances are influenced by her early exposure to blues, jazz, gospel and big band sounds. Jennifer's first
studio efforts involved providing backup vocals for the Narrow Gauge Band's CD produced by Doug Haywood
(an original member of Jackson Browne's band) as well as for Cup-a-Jo's latest CD "Enough's Enough."
